Your brokenness is your true superpower
"Hitting rock bottom is often necessary to shatter the illusions we create in our struggle to fit in. We need to reach a point of failure so deep that it breaks the facade of trying to conform."
Are you an outsider, a reject, someone who feels broken and like you don’t fit in? If so, I have great news for you—you qualify as an agent of change, someone capable of changing the world.
It might seem as though the universe has forgotten you, but it’s quite the opposite. All of your suffering, pain, and rejection are actually crucial elements designed to steer you into a position that frees you from the need to conform, please, or adhere to society’s expectations. This detachment is essential for seeing the world as it truly is.
From a spiritual perspective, rejection and suffering can be seen as gifts that strip away the ego, false identities, and attachments to superficial values. This stripping away is necessary for the development of true wisdom and compassion.
This is also the story of the wounded healer, someone who, through their own suffering and healing process, develops the empathy, insight, and strength to heal others. The same is true for the outsider, who, through their own journey of healing and transformation, becomes a healer or transformer of society at large.
Having suffered rejection or marginalization enables us to develop deep empathy and understanding, allowing us to connect with others on a profound level. We begin to see value in perspectives that the mainstream might dismiss. We learn to trust our own instincts and insights, rather than relying on external validation, which is making us powerful agents of change.
The real reason this outsider position is so important is that it allows us to break free from illusion, enabling us to see the flaws and deceptions within the system. It gives us the clarity to see the world without the rose-colored glasses that those integrated into the system often wear to protect themselves from their negative judgments and emotions.
Hitting rock bottom is a necessity to shatter the illusions we create in our struggle to fit in. We need to reach a point of failure so deep that it breaks the facade of trying to conform.
And once that facade is broken, we become free and are no longer as easily manipulated or controlled.
This is an extremely creative position to be in. The freedom from needing to conform to societal or familial expectations allows the outsider to forge their own path. They are not bound by the same rules as others, which gives them the freedom to explore, experiment, and innovate. The outsider often becomes a visionary, able to see beyond the limitations of the current paradigm. Their ability to think and act outside the box allows them to bring forth new ideas, new ways of being, and new structures that are more compassionate, and aligned with deeper truths.
The outsider’s rebellion against the established order becomes necessary for renewal when the system has become so rigid that it can no longer adapt to the changing world and circumstances. And because outsiders have little to lose, as they don’t benefit from the system, they are more willing to take the risk to challenge the existing order. Their courage and incorruptibility in standing up to authority and questioning the status quo is what drives transformation.
"The outsider’s rebellion against the established order becomes necessary for renewal when the system has become so rigid that it can no longer adapt to the changing world and circumstances."
This transformational journey, both for the individual and for society as a whole, is a recurring theme in mythology, folklore, and spiritual traditions. In these tales, the most underestimated individuals—the outsiders, the rejected, the broken, or those who don’t fit into the system—are the ones who embark on the hero’s journey and catalyze transformation. This archetype of the unlikely hero, like the fool and trickster, the lover, maid and servant or the rebel and outsider, witch or shaman, reveals deep insights into human nature and the path of spiritual and personal growth.
