SELF-EXPRESSION
NOTES
When self-expression
becomes our practice
Self-expression is an important part of self-healing and and self-discovery.
When we speak up for ourselves and live in a way that feels true to who we are, when we express ourselves, we’re taking control of our own story. We’re taking responsibility for ourselves. This empowers us.
Engaging in creative activities can be a way to explore different sides of ourselves and figure out what we enjoy and value. It’s not just about creating something but about discovering more about ourselves in the process. When we express our feelings, thoughts, experiences, ideas etc. whether through talking, writing, art, or whatever, it’s a way to understand ourselves better.
Getting things out in the open helps us deal with whatever is. It frees up space in our mind and heart. Plus, when we let ourselves be real, we start integrating different parts of ourselves that might have felt disconnected before. And, when we share our experiences, we might find others who feel the same way, which can make us feel less alone and more connected.
By also expressing what we need and how we want to be treated, we’re setting boundaries and advocating for ourselves.
When we channel our emotions and thoughts into something tangible, it can be also incredibly therapeutic.
Creative self-expression, such as painting, designing, writing, or playing music, can be meditation in action. Life/ creation becomes our practice.
In general, expressing ourselves provides a valuable way to find depth in our experiences.
